Prayer and fasting

As Ash Wednesday comes upon us tomorrow, we are called to fast and pray. It is the start of Lent (40 days leading up to the death and Resurrection of Christ).

Lent is a time for us (the Church) to get back on track with God. It is almost like a car. When you drive a car for 3,000 miles, you have to take it in the the shop for an oil change and repairs. In a way, this is what Lent is like. It is a time for us to really pray and fast, so that we can draw closer to God.

Many people even give something up that they are addicted to, or love. We do this so that it too will bring us closer to Him. All of the time that we spent doing on whatever we are giving up, should now be spent in prayer, reading the Scriptures or some type of devotion.

It is also a chance for us to really use the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We as Catholics should use this Sacrament as often as we can, but now is the time we really need to use it! It is what makes us pure before the Lord our God, and we all want that. Right?
